  Pat Gucciardo, 39, a high-energy coach with 17 years experience, ranging from High School to College to Professional Minor-League, was named the head football coach at Start High School in 2002. He is a competitor with a very strong work ethic who has a proven winning track record in both playing and coaching before coming to Start High School. His coaching stops include: Bowling Green State University (GA), 7 seasons at Whitmer High School (Quarterbacks and receivers) and the Southern Michigan Timberwolves (Head Coach, Professional Minor League Football).

     Gucciardo, a graduate of Whitmer high school, was named GLL (Great Lakes League) MVP as a senior in  1986 and then went on to play quarterback at Bowling Green State University (1987-1991). At BGSU, Gucciardo earned a degree in Technology Education an received 3 Varsity letters in football. In 1991, Pat's senior season, the Falcons finished the year 11-1, with the only loss coming to West Virginia (27-17) in Morgantown. The Falcons then went on to win the MAC (Mid-American Conference) Championship and the California Bowl 28-21 in Fresno, CA. against Fresno State (Dec. 14th 1991). After college, Gucciardo played  Minor-League Football with the Southern Michigan Timberwolves where he led them to a 68-7 record and 3 MCFL Championships over 5 seasons. Gucciardo was named League MVP in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and Offensive Player of the Year in 1998.

   Graduate of Wooster High School (’65).  Lettered in Football and Baseball.  Began coaching summer baseball while still a student there.  Graduated from Wittenberg University (’69).  Member of Football team and became student assistant coach as senior.  Received Master’s degree from University of Toledo. Taught History and social Studies for 30 years.  Retired form the classroom in 1999 but has continued to coach.

    High school coaching career began at Akron Springfield High School as varsity assistant in 1969.  Moved to Kent Roosevelt High School in 1972 and to Whitmer High School in Toledo in 1975 where served as Defensive Coordinator for next 31 years.  Took on latest position as Defensive Coordinator at Start High School in Toledo in 2006.

Tom Inman - Defensive Ends

Coach Inman is entering his third season with the Spartans, but he is no stranger to football. With 13 years head coaching experience at Woodward High School and recently six years as the defensive ends coach at Whitmer High School, he brings a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge to the Spartans in more ways than one.  Personal: Tom is a graduate of Whitmer High School and currently teaches with in the Toledo Public School System. Tom resides in Toledo with wife Luann and their two daughters Kallie and Jenna.

Ryan Sinift - Defensive Tackles / Special Teams Coordinator

Coach Sinift will begin his fifth season on the  Spartans staff to coach the defensive tackles in 2006.  Ryan brings an abundance of line-play knowledge to the Spartans, as he formally played defensive tackle and tight end at Waite High School in the mid-1990’s.  Coach Sinift has a young group this season only returning 1 starter/letterman off last year’s team. Personal: Ryan is a graduate of the University of Toledo and Waite High School.  He is currently employed as a History teacher at Start High School. Ryan is married to wife Sabrina.

Emil Moore - Offensive Line / Run Game Coordinator

Coach Moore is in his seventh season as one of the Spartans Offensive Line Coaches. He has coached 5 All-City players including a 2-time All-State offensive lineman, Rob Cameron. Coach Moore returns four starters off last years offensive line and looks to add more “Big Boys” to Start’s explosive offense.    Personal: Emil currently is enrolled at Owens Community College and is studying business and finance. Coach Moore is a graduate of Toledo Whitmer High School and is married to wife Kim and resides in Toledo.

Tony Gucciardo - Receivers / Pass Game Coordinator

Now, in his 6th season with the Spartans, Coach Gucciardo took the receiving core to new heights as they have broken every team receiving record in the book, including; Most receptions in a game, most yards receiving in a game, and most yards receiving in a season. Now in his second season, he takes over a brand new group of wide receivers looking to replace the record breaking seasons of 2007. Tony was a 4-year letterman as a wide-receiver and centerfielder at Kent State University and then coached at Whitmer High School in the early 90’s.   Personal: Tony is a graduate of Kent State University and Whitmer High School and is currently Executive Oncology Account Manager for GSK. Tony is married to wife Gail and they have 2 children, Megan and Nicholas.

Marc Thompson - Defensive Secondary

In  his seventh full season with the Spartans, Coach Thompson will coach the secondary on the defensive side of the ball. Coach Thompson hopes to teach his new group of DB’s with the same intensity as the past.  Coach Thompson has 2 returning starters and 3 letter winners, and also sees a lot of promise in some of his young players.   Personal: Marc is a graduate of the University of Toledo and Toledo Bowsher High School. Marc is married to wife Desiree and they have 2 children, Martina and Marcus.

Eric Dale - Wide Receivers

In his 1st season with the Spartans Varsity Staff, Coach Dale will be assisting with the Wide Receivers on the offensive side of the football. Eric is a former Spartan

John Willis - Running backs

In  his second full season with the Spartans varsity football team, Coach Willis will coach the Running Backs on the offensive side of the ball. Coach Willis hopes to teach his new group of backs with the same intensity of previous year’s backs.  Coach Willis has 2 returning starters and 3 letter winners, and also sees a lot of promise in some of his young players.   Personal: John is a graduate of the University of Toledo and Toledo Scott High School.

Mike Piasecki - Tight Ends

Coach Piasecki is entering his first season at Start High School. He is assisting Coach Moore with the offensive line and expects discipline and hard work from his players.  Mike played football and baseball at Whitmer High School in the early 80's. Personal: Mike currently resides in Toledo and also Coaches Minor-League Football for the Southern Michigan Timberwolves.

Jason Mitchell - Defensive Assistant

Coach Mitchell is entering his first season at Start High School. He is assisting Coach Rose with the outside linebackers.  Jason is a 1997 graduate of Middletown High School and the University of Toledo.
