7 ON 7 PASSING TOURNAMENT

See your Start Spartans THIS Saturday (June 6th) at 9:30 am until noon at the University of Toledo's practice fields. The Spartans will be competing against other high school teams from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan in four 7 on 7 passing games before lunch, and a single elimination tournament afterwards. Come get your first glimpse of what 2009 has in store for the Start Spartans!! See you Saturday!

Bell Breaks School Records as Spartans Roll 21-12

  Troy Bell ran for 226 yards on 34 carries and scored three touchdowns to not only lead Start (4-6, 4-3) to victory, but become the Spartans' all-time career rushing and scoring leader.

  His scoring runs were for 4, 8 and 21 yards. Spartan Quarterback, Josh Giles finished 7 of 14 for 88 yards.

Corey Cook hit 9 of 24 passes for 134 yards for the Bulldogs (2-8, 1-6), including scoring strikes of 46 yards to Phillip Bobo and 8 to Kenneth Campbell. Armon Richardson led Scott with 103 yards on 21 carries.

  The Spartans finish the 2008 season 4-3 in the Toledo City League and will return 9 starters on offense, and 8 on defense for the 2009 football season.

  Start will travel to Fremont Ross High School on Friday, August 28 and and then back to Spartan Stadium for Anthony Wayne and Sylvania Southview.

Spartans Finish '07 Season with 28-20 Win over Clay as Bell Rushes for 253

11/1/2007 - Spartan tailback, Troy Bell was electrifying as Start won their 7th game of the season, and their 4th straight Hall of Fame Bowl in six years. Bell carried the ball 28 times for 253 yards and one touchdowns, as Brad Leestma only threw the ball 16 times, but connected on 11 for 144-yards.

   Start fumbled away their first three opportunities inside the Eagles 15-yardline, only to follow with four consecutive touchdown drives. Deonte Fuller scored first on a 1-yard run to take Start into halftime tied at 7. Leestma capped off a 55-yard drive with a 7-yard run of his own to give the Spartans their first lead of the night. Tailback, Troy Bell moved the Spartans down the field and finished a 81-yard drive with a 3-yard TD run. Wide receiver, Derrick Rodgers finished the scoring with a 17-yard slant route to put Start up 28-14 in the fourth quarter. The Spartans finish the season with 7 wins, the most since 1998. Gucciardo's Spartans have now beat Rogers High School twice (2002. 2006) and Clay High School twice (2003, 2007) in four of the past six City-League Hall of Fame games.
