Pat Gucciardo, 39, a high-energy coach with 17 years experience, ranging from High School to College to Professional Minor-League, was named the head football coach at Start High School in 2002. He is a competitor with a very strong work ethic who has a proven winning track record in both playing and coaching before coming to Start High School. His coaching stops include: Bowling Green State University (GA), 7 seasons at Whitmer High School (Quarterbacks and receivers) and the Southern Michigan Timberwolves (Head Coach, Professional Minor League Football).

Gucciardo, a graduate of Whitmer high school, was named GLL (Great Lakes League) MVP as a senior in  1986 and then went on to play quarterback at Bowling Green State University (1987-1991). At BGSU, Gucciardo earned a degree in Technology Education an received 3 Varsity letters in football. In 1991, Pat's senior season, the Falcons finished the year 11-1, with the only loss coming to West Virginia (27-17) in Morgantown. The Falcons then went on to win the MAC (Mid-American Conference) Championship and the California Bowl 28-21 in Fresno, CA. against Fresno State (Dec. 14th 1991). After college, Gucciardo played  Minor-League Football with the Southern Michigan Timberwolves where he led them to a 68-7 record and 3 MCFL Championships over 5 seasons. Gucciardo was named League MVP in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and Offensive Player of the Year in 1998.

Since 2002, Coach Gucciardo and the Spartans have collected three City League Hall of Fame Bowl victories, as the Spartans beat Rogers twice in 2002 (27-13) and 2006 (28-21), and then pounded the Clay Eagles 47-13 in 2003.  Now in his fifth season at Start, Coach Gucciardo is looking forward to the 2006 football campaign as the Spartans return 17 starters and 21 letter winners off last years team. Under Coach Gucciardo, the Spartans have been in contention for the Toledo City League championship for two of the past four season, and has played the most competitive schedule in school history. Most notable, Coach Gucciardo has brought an offense that has simply torn through the record books as well as opposing defenses in the City League.

Gucciardo's "Fun-n-Gun" offense has produced more yardage and more touchdown passes than any other TCL (Toledo City-League) School in history. The Spartans have recorded over 28,500 yards in total offense and 130  touchdown passes in the past six seasons, which ranks 1st in the league in both categories. He claims that their offensive success comes from trying to be as balanced as possible along with finding the right people to execute the system.

Personal: Pat is a graduate of Bowling Green Sate University and Whitmer High School. He is currently a Computer Technology teacher at Mason High School where he has taught for the past 9 years. He and his wife Kelli have four children: Taylor, Kennedi, AJ, and Ty. Pat's brother Tony coaches the Wide Receivers and Special Teams for the Spartans.
