Christmas 2010
Because of Dave's
work schedule, we celebrate Christmas a week early. He and Millie
made the long drive from Philadelphia and had a week here with
us. We all went to Mira's school Christmas program and celebrated
the holiday on Friday night. For the first time in a long time,
we had the whole family under our roof.
Mira's school did a version of
the "Nutcracker" and she performed her lines and dances
perfectly. How else. Here she is peeking around to look at
her family, who were all there cheering her on. The
grandparent gene requires us to be insufferably proud of our children
and grandchildren.

After the program, we all went
out to eat and Jessa and Dad were having a very serious conversation
about the nature of life - or something like that. Grandpa
Dave (Brett's dad) joined us and it was a fun evening. Nothing
like having the family together for food and fellowship.
The first Christmas was on
December 18, the latest Dave, Millie and Alex could come. We
gathered at Deer Creek for beef tenderloin, green potatoes, and other
assorted goodies. We opened a few presents in the evening after
dinner and the rest on Saturday morning. It was the first time in
a very long time that we had everyone spend the night in the Deer Creek
house. It is a sign that the children are growing up. We
had waffles for breakfast, (Belgian waffles are becoming a regular
family treat) and then waved goodby to Dave and Millie as they headed
back to Philadelphia. Kris and Brett left soon after to take Mira
to her dance recital.
We went to Kris and Brett's for
Christmas morning. The girls were anxiously awaiting our
arrival. More presents and, then, another family tradition,
donuts in the donut maker. We have been doing that for many, many
years. We are so grateful to have our family together for
the holidays. We dearly love our children, their spouses and our
grandchildren. Being together provides sustenance for the rest of
the year. Here are some photos from the holiday.
