Photo/VideoAndy Morrison Andy is one of the best underwater photographers in the Great Lakes. Some of his photos appear throughout my web site. Check out his web site to see more of his wonderful images. Bad Frog Divers My dive buddy Marshall Allan shoots lots of underwater video. Together, he and I put together programs about Great Lakes shipwrecks. Visit his site to purchase videos about such storied wrecks as Gunilda, North Wind, and the wrecks of Whitefish Point. Dive StoresSea Level Scuba A great dive store in northwest Ohio serving technical as well as recreational divers. Dive Tech Training Centre When diving the 1000 Islands, you must stop by Dive Tech. It has to be one of the best dive stores I have ever seen. Underwater Wonder My good friend Bob Overstreet offers fantastic pricing on many great products, my favorites being Salvo and Oxycheq. ChartersRec and Tech Dive Charters Capt. Gary Venet offers charters on Lake Huron departing from Port Sanilac and Harbor Beach, MI. Awesome diving from a beautiful boat. Osprey Charters An excellent operation run by Capt. Jim Herbert. Not only is the Southwind the biggest and nicest day boat I've seen on the lakes, it's the fastest. Jim also offers gas fills including nitrox, trimix, and oxygen. Thousand Island Pleasure Diving The 1000 Islands region of the St. Lawrence River is an absolute "must-dive" for any Great Lakes diver. It boasts warm water with no thermoclines, no waves to speak of (hence no seasickness) and lots of great diving. Capt. Wayne Green can take you to the best sites, including those in US waters. Under Where? Dive Charters Capt. Tom Scott runs my other favorite boat in the 1000 Islands. Departing from Brockville, Tom runs to the best dive sites in that area of the river, including wrecks and drift dives. QuarriesWhite Star Quarry White Star Park is an 800 acre park in Sandusky County Ohio (near Gibsonburg). On the park property, White Star Quarry is a 15 acre man-made lake with an average depth of 40'. The bottom of the stone crusher pit reaches about 75'. The park offers tree-shaded surroundings, picnic tables, and grills for relaxation during your surface interval. A beach and swimming area are available as well. Air and nitrox fills are generally available on weekends throughout the summer. Check their website for more details. Gilboa Quarry Gilboa Quarry is a 14 acre flooded stone quarry located about 15 miles west of Findlay, OH. Gilboa offers two very different personalities for divers. The shallow side is about 60' deep and offers much for the recreational diver to see including a school bus, a multitude of boats and even a commercial airliner! The deep side drops sharply to 130', making it the deepest dive site in northwest Ohio. Many technical divers frequent the deep side of Gilboa for training. This area of the quarry demands respect. Please be careful. Air and nitrox fills are generally available. See their website for more amenities and details.
