The Daniel J. Morrell is a 586 foot long steel freighter. She was built in 1906 in West Bay City, MI. In November 1966, the Morrell was upbound on Lake Huron in a horrible storm. Near the tip of Michigan's thumb, she broke in half. The bow section sank as the stern, still under power, steamed another 5 miles until it sank. The bow section rests upright and quite intact (apart from the fact the stern half is missing). Depth is about 100' to the top of the wheelhouse and about 140' to the main deck. |

The Dunderberg is a three masted schooner, 186' in length. She was built in 1867 and was just over one year old when she collided with the steamer Empire State and sank. She is a beautiful example of a Great Lakes schooner. Upright in 150' of water, she is known for her stunning bowspirit with carved alligator figurehead. Other features of interest include the anchors, ornate wood carving on the bow, the windlass and the V-shaped collision hole. |
